Did You Ever DUI (Driving Under Influence)?

Driving under influence (DUI) is the action of operating a vehicle while intoxicated with alcohol or drugs. It is generally refered to as drinking and driving, or impaired driving. However, DUI also applies to operating a bike, boat, airplane, wheelchair, tractor. DUI is a criminal offense that is punishable by law in most countries. Depending on which country or jurisdiction, there are different levels of offenses: driving under intense influence(DUII), driving while intoxicated (DWI), operating while intoxicated (OWI), operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated (OMVI).

A person can be charged by the authorities because they show signs of being impaired. It is usually established by observing driving behavior such as weaving. Tests such as walking in a straight line or standing on one leg can also administered by the arresting officers. Generally, the results of these tests are subject to the officer’s opinions.

Now a days, police officers use equipment to sample the blood alcohol concentration (BAC) in the breath. The US states has deemed it illegal to drive with a BAC that is above 0.08%. Based on either the officer’s observation, BAC test result, or both, the officer can charge an individual with DUI.
